Our Senior Citizen’s project

Samkni interviewed Eric. This is what I found out about my Senior Citizen, Eric. When you have read about my project, please fill in the comment box and tell me about a senior citizen or grandparent that you know. Thanks
Eric as a small child.
Hi my name is Eric. There were two in my family. We lived in Bergvleit. My dad was a teacher and my mom was a house wife. I remember how we loved to ride bikes. We played with sand trailers and knitted treaddy bears. Once I was knocked off my bike.
Eric’s Primary School Days
Part of my school uniform was that I had to ear a hat. I went to school in Rondebosch. We rode to school by bike or we caught the bus. Ur subjects at school were English, Afrikaans, Arithmetic and Nature Study. We didn’t have computers. I remember how naughty children would get caned. We had lots of homework and I remember that I played cricket.
Eric as a teenager
We wore khaki shorts in those days. There were no cell phones and no TV. No DVD p-layers. We played sports like running. I liked to listen to the radio. If I wanted to visit a friend I would jump on my bike and off I would go. I was fifteen when I went on my first date. We went to the cinema. To me the perfect date was to go somewhere with a nice girl. I loved listening to the hit parade on the radio. We watched musicals and westerns at the cinemas. My mom always cooked a roast on Sundays. We had a servant who helped us to clean the house. I met my wife at church.
How has South Africa changed since Eric was a child?
A good thing is that there is no more apartheid.
Does Eric have any interesting information about his or her own grandparents?
My grandfather came from England.
What advice can Eric give to help us in our lives?
I think it is very important to believe in yourself.
Any herbs and remedies that were popular when Eric was a child?
For colds we always used to put vix on cotton wool on our chests and nose.
Any other interesting stories you could tell us?
I remember getting a scar from a pocket knife.
